Berry-Beet Smoothie



Berries are full of antioxidants, while beets are a good source of fibre, folate, potassium and vitamin C. Plus, beet juice has been shown to help lower blood pressure thanks to its dietary nitrate. The avocado adds healthy fats’and puts the ‘smooth’ in this smoothie.


1/2 cup (125 mL) blueberries, fresh or frozen
1/2 cup (125 mL) raspberries or strawberries, fresh or frozen
1 cup (250 mL) coconut water
1 medium canned or steamed beet, chopped
1/4 avocado
Juice from 1/2 a lemon
Handful of ice


Blend all ingredients together.


Serves two. Per serving: 96 calories, 2 g protein, 3 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 17 g carbohydrates, 5 g fibre, 7 g sugars, 0 mg cholesterol, 148 mg sodium
